Blessing

After her university education in America, Julie found a good job there. The company treated her very well, offering her an attractive income. As a bachelor girl, she enjoyed a carefree life there.

Last year her mother in Malaysia suffered from cancer of the stomach. After operation, she was recuperating slowly. Immediately Julie asked for a transfer back to Malaysia. She rented an apartment and invited her mother to stay with her.

Julie is not the only child in the family. She has an elder sister and a younger brother. But she is the only one who gave up the life she was leading to undertake the responsibility of taking care of her mother.

Her elder sister and younger brother gave her some money as expenses for taking care of their mother. Other than this, both of them seldom come and visit the mother. As if by contributing some money, they have done their part as children.

Julie's friends felt that she should talk to her sister and brother regarding their duties. But Julie was very cool on this matter. She just said quietly,"Taking care of my mother is a blessing."

Hearing this, her friends were speechless. No wonder she has never complained. Patiently she searches for those recipes that are suitable for her mother's health and prepares the food for her. She cherishes her time spent with her mother so much so that she has no time to complain that she is tired or troubled.

Under Julie's care, her mother's once pessimistic condition is getting better day by day. Her will to live is getting stronger and stronger. She even gets out of bed to take a walk in the garden within the premise of the apartment.

The once heavy burden has now become a pleasant gift. Now whenever her friends encounter any difficulties or trouble, they will think of her words:"Doing a little more is a blessing". Sometimes jokingly they say these words among their circle of friends, but unconsciously the way they see things around them has changed. Good blessing is contagious!
